Destination: Galveston Soap

Handmade in small batches in my Minnesota kitchen, this Destination: Galveston soap contains: Olive Oil, Locally Sourced Minnesota Goat Milk, Beer, Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil, RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil, Food-Grade Sodium Hydroxide, Castor Oil, Fragrance Oil (Paraben & Phthalate Free), Sunflower Oil, Mica, Oxide.

This citrusy and light fragrance was inspired by The Seven Kingdoms and is a malty blend of grapefruit, banana, peppercorn, honey, orange peel, lemon and ginger.

The Story:

During the panicked spring semester of my senior year of college, my internship was ending and I was thinking, holy crap — what’s next? One night, while I was wildly tossing resumes into the mail like spaghetti, one of my friends called.

While I was enjoying the mountains in Colorado, she was walking in the sand in Texas. Her internship had just offered her a full-time job, and they had a second opening.

So, a few weeks after graduation, we ventured to Texas in our (very full) cars. Gosh, I used to be able to make fast, impulsive decisions.

For a while, we were just two South Dakota girls feeling a little lost in a big new place. But, one perk of being an introvert with an extroverted friend? She always made sure we got out of the house, because, “We’ll never make any friends if we don’t go out and try, Darcy.”

She was right, and before long we met the coolest crew of Coast Guard guys and gals who welcomed us into their group without hesitation. They quickly became our Texas family.

We had some other really great friends there, too, but I think the reason the Coastie group was so special is that Galveston wasn’t home for any of us. We were all just visiting there together.

From that first “real job” to now, much of my career has centered around hospitality and tourism. So, when I started making soap, it felt like a natural fit to create guest-sized soaps for vacation rental owners – and I have so much fun making these destination-themed soaps.

So, this soap is a tribute to that first post-college chapter. It’s made beer in place of half the goat milk, because from Molly’s Pub to Mardi Gras, there was always plenty of beer.

The beer adds sugar to the soap, which makes it extra sudsy, and it’s scented with a blend of blend of malt, fruit, honey, peppercorn, lemon & ginger. The colored swirls represent the Coast Guard flag – and all the people who made Galveston feel like home.

If you’re a vacation rental owner or host, I’d love to help you create a custom soap inspired by what makes your location special—something your guests will remember long after their stay.
